The Municipal Council of Tarhouna (MCT) has held an urgent meeting with the Council of Sheikhs and Dignitaries and civil society institutions to consider a leaked government decision appointing around 83 ambassadors and chargés d'affaires, 3 of them "attributed themselves to the city of Tarhouna," according to MCT.

The MCT said in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Sunday that the city and all its social components had agreed previously on a particular context, which states that any person nominated to a senior state position must be selected by the city.

It confirmed that the city did not nominate any of those who were listed in the government decision.

“The one who nominated them is Presidency Council member Ahmed Mitig for personal benefits,” the statement reads.

The MCT said it will take timely mannered steps, as described in the statement, against these kind of actions.

According to the leaked document, which could not be verified, 3 people from Tarhouna were nominated to occupy diplomatic jobs. They included Najat Al-Furjani as an ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe; Omer Al-Tarhouni as an ambassador to Italy; and Abdul-Gader Al-Habshi as a Consul in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to observers, the 83 people were chosen on regional basis.
