The mayor of Tazirbu, Ibrahim Jaddalla, reported that significant damage was recorded in palm crops this year due to the spread of desert locusts, which caused huge material losses to farmers. He revealed in a press statement the arrival of specialized teams from Tripoli and Benghazi to combat the desert locusts that have spread in the city for about ten days coming from Sudan and Chad.
The mayor also indicated that there are five cars working to spray locusts with pesticides, calling for rapid support for the municipality in confronting the locusts that have invaded most of its farms.
The Head of the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, Salah Mubarak, said that their control teams are working on the swarms of African locusts in Tazirbu, Tarhouna and Bani Walid.
Mubarak added that they received reports from the coordinators of the agricultural sector, and from their offices in several areas in the south; adding that they have formed control teams in the areas of Nalut, Ghat, Idri and Ghadames. He said that they had begun combating the disease in an area of 600 hectares in Sabha and Samnou, calling on the Government of National Unity to quickly provide urgent combat capabilities.
