Brigadier General, Ahmed Abu Shahma, who has been appointed as the Military Governor of Sirte, said they had not found any IS terrorists while they were combing through southern parts of Sirte, pointing out that they had only found war remnants.

In a TV interview on Sunday, Abu Shahma said IS escapees who managed to make it out of Sirte alive took a hiding in the valleys nearby the city such as Gararat Jahanam and Waw Al-Namous.

“After the liberation of Sirte, the IS diehards ran away from Sirte and positioned themselves in Garza district in western Bani Walid city.” The Military Governor added.

He indicated the liberated areas in Sirte are still under the threat of IS militants, who are formed sporadically in the area and thus their actions, particularly in the western Sirte districts, cannot be surmised.

“They move at night forming small groups, therefore; they pose a real threat to the western districts in Sirte.” Abu Shahma remarked.

Abu Shahma was appointed as the Military Governor of Sirte in last December, days after the liberation of Sirte from the grip of IS radicals.
