Tajoura residents went out on the streets in big numbers on Thursday to celebrate the 5th anniversary of February 25th protest against the former regime of Gaddafi.

In 2011, thousands of Tajoura locals, joined by residents of neighboring districts of Arada and Souq Aljomaa took their way to then-Green Square chanting freedom, revolution, and anti-regime slogans. In the middle of their way, Gaddafi forces dispersed them by fire, leaving many dead and injured.

Celebrating the solemn event, Tajoura locals held a ceremony in the presence of the families of that day’s martyrs coupled with a huge number of people. There was also a marathon from Murad Agha mosque in Tajoura to the Martyrs Square.

At the Martyrs Square, a ceremony was held to represent the traditions of the country with some speeches glorifying the sacrifices of the martyrs and their role in the revolution’s victory, as their blood was shed to pave the way for Libya to be free of the four-decade-long dictatorship and oppression.
