The Chief of the UNHCR, Filippo Grandi, said there should be cooperation to end the crisis of illegal immigration and the efforts should start in sources countries, adding that there is no one-country solution to it.

Grandi said in a press conference in Tripoli that crossing countries such as Niger and Libya need assistance to help undermine the crisis of illegal immigration.

"We should look for a place to settle the immigrants, and the intention to visit Libya by the Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini is a good step so he can see the efforts put in this issue." He explained, saying the countries involved in this crisis should support Libya and Niger more.

"We managed to send those migrants of young age and those who are the most vulnerable to Italy and Romania and a number of 1300 others to Niger so later they can be sent to a third country." Grandi remarked.

He also said that the UNHCR wishes to reach an international quota that sees all countries equally sharing the burden of resolving the crisis of illegal immigration, pointing out that one country's solution is not helpful, saying many countries need to take the initiative and resettle the immigrants as Libya and Niger cannot take the whole burden on their own.

"I understand Italy's stance of shutting down the door for receiving immigrants as it had so far taken the biggest number of them. But sea-wise, there should be no shutdown of ports as it is not a good solution for dealing with this dilemma." He further explained.

Grandi also said he visited a number of Libyan IDPs and held some political talks for paving the way for their return to their home towns.

"Wednesday is the World Refugee Day, so my presence in Libya is no coincidence as I am here to celebrate this day and showcase the aids we are providing to help together with Libyans solve this crisis, thus I urge all Libyan parties to commit to finding a solution to it." He indicated.
