Authorities in the Libyan city of Sabratha have called on the Tunisian government to immediately release one of their locals, currently detained in Tunis.

The municipal and military councils of Sabratha, a city about 66 km west of Tripoli, said in a statement on Wednesday that charges against Al-Azhar Al-Magoari are baseless.

Al-Magoari was arrested by the Tunisian police upon entering Tunisia from Ras Ejdir border crossing on September 11. He was charged with supporting terror.

"These charges are baseless; the security practices by Tunisia against Sabratha locals may undermine the relations between the two countries." The statement reads.

The statement confirmed that Al-Magoari is working in a relief society according to the local regulations and has nothing to do with terror.

Al-Magoari is the chairman of   Basamat Al-Rahma (Fingerprints of Mercy) Charity for Relief and Humanitarian Aid.

The municipal and military councils of Sabratha also invited the Tunisian officials and charitable organizations there to visit the city, which the Tunisian media outlets insist on calling it as a sponsor of terrorism, to make sure of the media claims.
