Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Obeid has revealed the preparation of a joint plan with Libya and Algeria to develop border areas and eliminate parallel trade (the black market) and smuggling.
This came in response to a parliamentary question in the Tunisian House of Representatives from MP Abdel Sattar Al-Zarii regarding parallel trade and the establishment of free trade zones.
Obeid explained that Tunisian authorities are developing a comprehensive and effective approach to combat parallel trade and mitigate its negative impact on the national economy.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening communication with young people and informing them of the risks of the informal economy, considering them an effective force in supporting regional development.
The Tunisian Minister stated that the Ben Guerdane border region with Libya represents a key pillar in this endeavor, as the ministry is working to integrate it into the development project so that it becomes an attractive investment area capable of creating wealth and employment opportunities.
He also stated that a joint plan is currently being prepared with Algeria and Libya, aiming to develop border areas and transform them into thriving spaces that provide the elements of a decent life and employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
