57 Tunisian nationals, detained in the city of Sabratha in western Libya, were released on Tuesday.
Sources said the Shura Council of the city intervened and secured their release. The Tunisians, mostly workers, were detained Monday in retaliation for the detention of the city mayor by the Tunisian authorities in Carthage airport.
Mayor Hussein Al-Dwadi and civilian activist Al-Azhar Al-Maqori are still detained in Tunisia without any charges. Al-Dwadi was about to attend a UN-sponsored workshop when he was snatched at the airport.
Sabratha Municipality has denounced their arrest and called Tunisia to release them immediately.
