Turkish Ambassador to Libya Kanan Yilmaz

Turkish ambassador to Libya Kanan Yilmaz has affirmed that his country will continue to provide training and consultancy to help reconstruct the Libyan army through the security and military memorandum signed between the two countries.

Yilmaz noted in statements to The Libya Observer that Turkey was the first and only country to respond to the request of Libya's legitimate government for assistance in liberating Tripoli in 2019.

"Libya requested help from five countries at that time (during Haftar's aggression on Tripoli), and Turkey was the only country that came to help." He said.

The Turkish ambassador indicated that his country supported the restart of a new political process in the country, which brought the current administration commissioned to run the transitional period.

He also emphasized Turkey's readiness to help in development projects, especially in energy, water, municipal and essential services.

"Turkish construction companies have a record of long-standing work in Libya and are fully aware of the problems and the solutions as well." Yilmaz indicated.

On Thursday, the Turkish Embassy in Libya organized a ceremony to mark the 5th anniversary of the July 15 failed coup attempt, which claimed the lives of around 250 people.

Members from the Turkish army affiliated with the "Gülen" organization launched an operation in several major cities to topple the government and unseat President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to official statements.

The Head of the High Council of State Khaled Al-Mashri, member of the Presidential Council Abdullah Al-Lafi, Libyan army Chief Muhammad Al-Haddad, and the President of the Union Party Abdul Rahman Al-Swehli were also present at the gathering.
