The Advisory Committee established by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) concluded its second three-day meeting in Tripoli on Friday.

According to UNSMIL, the committee held discussions on the current electoral framework with a focus on the contentious aspects that have hindered the holding of national elections in Libya, facilitated by the mission’s experts in the field of elections and the constitution.

The committee members stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to resolving all challenges; recognizing that many of these issues are interconnected.

UNSMIL said that several possible proposals were discussed to address them in line with the committee’s mandate, and the committee had agreed to reconvene in the coming days to continue its work. It also commended the constructive discussions and the commitment and dedication shown by the committee members in working to present proposals that would support the country’s transition to sustainable democratic governance.

The Advisory Committee held its first meeting in Tripoli on February 10, and convened an initial discussion on the main contentious issues related to the electoral framework.
