The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Hana Tetteh, has met with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo to discuss Libya’s political crisis and the urgent need to accelerate preparations for general elections.
During the meeting, Tetteh shared insights from her recent talks with Libyan stakeholders, stressing the importance of Arab League support in advancing the political process toward stability.
The discussions also addressed regional influences on the Libyan crisis, with both sides underscoring the need for closer coordination between international and regional organizations to achieve a lasting political solution.
Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the Arab League’s full backing for UN efforts in Libya, emphasizing the need for logistical and political support to ensure free and fair elections.
He also reiterated the League’s commitment to assisting Libyan parties in implementing a political roadmap that fosters national unity and long-term stability.
