The UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, has talked about his meetings since assuming office in Tripoli, saying on Twitter that since arriving in Tripoli on 14 October, he has met various stakeholders from the Presidential Council, Government of National Unity, House of Representatives' Speaker, National Oil Corporation, the Libyan Army, High National Elections Commission, Khalifa Haftar and the Joint Military Commission's eastern and western members.

Bathily said he will engage with all parties including civil society, women, and youth, as his priority is to identify a consensual pathway towards the holding of inclusive and credible elections at the soonest possible.

"During my first week, I met with Prime Minister Mr. Abdul Hamid AlDabaiba and FM Najla ElMangoush who welcomed me to the country and expressed support for the good offices of the UN. I also met with the President of the Presidential Council Mr. Mohamed Al-Menfi and member Mr. Abdullah Al-Lafi, where I stressed the solution to the Libyan crisis must come from Libyans themselves." Bathily said on Twitter.

Bathily said the economic sector is equally critical and that's why he had met with the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Farhat Bengdara to discuss means to strengthen the NOC’s independence as a sovereign institution.

On the military and security track, Bathily emphasized the urgency of unifying Libya’s military and security institutions in my meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, General Mohamed Al-Haddad.

Bathily also heard views on how to strengthen efforts to hold elections when he met with the Chairperson of the High National Elections Commission, saying he went to Benghazi where he had fruitful discussion with Khalifa Haftar, to whom he reiterated the need to find a peaceful and sustainable solution for Libya. Bathily is going to give his first briefing at the Security Council on Monday.
