The UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame has attributed the intensity of fighting in Libya to the new confrontation between Washington and Moscow as well as the flow of weapons to the country.
Salame told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Saturday that the first complexity in the Libyan conflict is attributed to US-Russia tensions as reports point to Russian security firms being on the ground in Libya.
Salame also said that the Berlin conference on Libya could be held at the beginning of 2020, adding that more countries could be invited to participate, without naming them.
The Head of UNSMIL indicated that after the Berlin conference, there will be another meeting for Libyan parties in mid-January 2020 in Geneva, according to AFP.
Up until today, no final date has been set for the upcoming international conference on Libya in Berlin, Germany despite the conference being slated at first for mid-November 2019, but it had been pushed till next year over disagreements among different countries on different issues.
