An official military force, that would be independent financially and administratively, has been formed under the name “Presidential Guard”, the Presidential Council (PC) of the UN-proposed government has announced, pointing out that the force will take orders from it, as it is the Commander in Chief of the Libyan Army as per the political agreement.

In a statement Monday, the PC specified the tasks of the newly formed Presidential Guard to be securing presidential and sovereign headquarters, state institutions, protecting PC members and securing the movement and residence of foreign officials visiting Libya.

“The Presidential Guard is tasked to secure the vital targets of the country such as land, sea, and air borders as well as the water pipelines and power plants and other tasks.” The PC’s statement indicated.

According to the PC’s statement, the Presidential Guard will be formed out of the military and police units, who were picked and recruited in all Libyan cities, in addition, it will be based in Tripoli and its Chief is going to be military figure with a rank no lower than colonel.
