The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) in Libya said that 1.760 Sudanese refugees in eastern Libya received relief aid last week, adding in a statement on Facebook that 787 refugee families who recently fled the war in Sudan received blankets, mattresses, solar lamps, plastic sheets, water containers, and personal hygiene supplies in Derna and Al-Gubba in eastern Libya last week.
UNHCR pointed out that these refugees were forced to "leave everything behind them" and often arrive with only the clothes on their backs, stressing that emergency aid represents a "lifeline" that helps them rebuild their lives and restore their dignity amid these difficult circumstances. UNHCR indicated that this support was achieved in partnership with the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority.
Last December, the World Food Program distributed more than 235 metric tons of food to displaced Sudanese in Libya, noting that the aid reached more than 31,000 Sudanese across the country. The United Nations program indicated, in a statement, that 3,180 children and 1,396 breastfeeding women received nutritional support as part of UN initiatives to prevent malnutrition, noting that cash transfers reached 3,604 vulnerable families in the areas hosting displaced persons in Al-Azzawiya and Sabha, with a total amount of $40,425.
