The UN-installed Presidency Council brokered late on Wednesday an agreement with loyal brigades and municipal councils to stop fighting in Tripoli.

PC member Ahmed Hamza and Defense Minister-designate Mihid Al-Barghati chaired a meeting in Abu Sittah Naval Base with the municipal councils of Misrata, Souq Al-Jonaa and Central Tripoli, in addition to commanders of loyal armed brigades from Misrata and Tripoli, to declare end of fighting in the capital.

According to the ceasefire agreement, all armed brigades “rival ones” shall withdraw from Tripoli according to the Libya political agreement and release all prisoners who were arrested based on their identities.

Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigade and Ghaniewa armed brigade of UN-Presidency Council launched an offensive on rival groups from Misrata three days ago and managed to drove them out of several areas of the capital.

Now according to the ceasefire agreement, some of the controlled buildings would be handed over to other loyal brigades from Misrata.

“Brigade 301 of the Ministry of Defense will be tasked to guard the Ministry of Interior,” the agreement indicated. Brigade 301 is from Misrata and known as Al-Halboos Brigade.

Regarding protection of Rixos compound, the agreement stated that it would be handed over to Brigade 14 and Brigade 155, both are also Misrata.

Brigade 17, also from Misrata, was tasked with the protection of Airport Road, a region where several rival groups are located.

Reacting to the ceasefire agreement, Ghaniewa armed brigade, which now controls Rixos compound, said it was not part of the agreement and it will only accept inclusive solutions.

“We will stand with Tripoli residents in their demands to expel gangs that worry them,” Ghaniewa armed brigade confirmed.
