The United Nation Security Council approved on Wednesday the government of Fayaz Sirraj, which was announced in Skhirat on December 17.

Sirraj government was imposed by the UN mission in Libya despite the refusal of GNC majority and lack of a quorum to give it a vote of confidence by Tobruk Parliament.

Around 20 GNC members and 80 counterparts from Tobruk attended the signing ceremony, which was chaired by HoR member Emhimmed Shoaib and GNC Second Deputy President Saleh Al-Makhzoum, who have no legal authority to sign the accord.

Foreign commentators said the signing of this government accord aims to pave the way for a military intervention in Libya.

Libyan nationals have been divided over the UN government. Both Tripoli and Tobruk parliaments have refused the government, and many elders' councils expressed rejection to it.

There were also protests in Tripoli, Misrata, Gharyan and Al-Zawiya against Sirraj government, while in Misrata, there was a pro Sirraj demonstration, a sign of growing division rather than unity.

Tripoli Revolutionaries' Brigade led by Haitem Al-Tajouri, said in a statement Wednesday it would not favor one party over another in the current political situation. The brigade, one of the most powerful ones in Tripoli, called all political rivals to sit together and unite to reach the consensus needed for the formation of a national government, a sign of their non-recognition of Sirraj government.

"We would be on demand when a consensus on a national unity government is reached and when the country has one will and administration." The statement reads.

Al-Nabaa TV reported that Sirraj government would operate temporarily from Tunisia until the UNSMIL finds a way to install it in Tripoli, which seems to be a difficult job due to the presence of anti-armed factions.
