The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Tuesday that it had received the final report from the Advisory Committee, marking the completion of the committee’s mandate on Monday.
In its statement, the Mission said the report includes a set of options and recommendations aimed at addressing the contentious issues within Libya’s current electoral framework.
UNSMIL explained that the next step will involve a thorough review and evaluation of the recommendations, followed by consultations with relevant stakeholders and the wider Libyan public to examine the proposed options.
The Mission added that it will proceed to develop a consensus-based political roadmap to facilitate the holding of national elections and the unification of state institutions.
UNSMIL described the Advisory Committee as an integral part of the inclusive political process it is facilitating—one that is Libyan-led and Libyan-owned—designed to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
The Mission reaffirmed its commitment to working with all Libyan parties, with the support of the international community, to advance the political process in a way that preserves stability and addresses the country’s pressing challenges.
The Advisory Committee was established by UNSMIL in February and consists of 20 Libyan figures selected based on the Mission’s assessment of their expertise and capacities.
