The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held a dialogue meeting with a number of youth from Zintan and Mashashiya at the mission's headquarters in Tripoli on the role of youth and local communities in reducing community violence and supporting social reform efforts.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of several civil society organizations, along with a group of leading women in the field of civil peace, according to a statement published by the mission on its Facebook page.

The statement added that the workshop, held last Thursday as part of the Comprehensive Community Reform Initiative programme, focused on empowering youth to work together to design and formulate recommendations that contribute to the development of community violence reduction programmes and to collaborate in adopting an integrated reform project.

A number of participants emphasized that Libya's tribal components are united by a unified national identity and a long history of coexistence and integration. They emphasized that the commonalities between Libyans far outweigh the divisive factors resulting from the proliferation of weapons and political divisions, according to the statement.

The participants called for future meetings to include a wider segment of youth from Zintan and Mashashiya, as well as youth from other cities in the Western Mountains, with the aim of strengthening and consolidating civil peace in various regions of the mountain.
