The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called on both Mohamed Takala and Khaled Al-Mishri to put Libya's interests first.
In a statement on Friday, the mission said that it had closely followed the controversy surrounding the results of the August 6 session to elect the president of the High Council of State, and that the mission had taken note of the positions of the presidential candidates, stressing that this was an internal matter that the High Council of State must resolve.
The mission also called on the concerned parties in the council to strive to preserve the unity and integrity of the council, and to put Libya's interests first.
The Legal Committee of the High Council of State in Libya announced the victory of candidate Al-Mishri against Takala, after extensive controversy among its members, regarding the disputed ballot paper in the council's presidency elections, which took place last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Communication Committee regarding the latest elections for the High Council of State said that it had reached 3 proposals to be submitted to both parties.
The Communication Committee added in a statement that the proposals included holding a third round between the candidates for the presidency of the council, going to court to decide on the disputed ballot paper, and completing the elections for the positions of first deputy, second deputy, and rapporteur.
