The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said Wednesday that at least 14 unmarked Russian warplanes had arrived in Al-Jufra airbase in central Libya.
US AFRICOM added on Twitter that MiG 29S and SU-24 fighter aircraft left Russia over several days in May, adding that at the time, they had Russian Air Force marks but after landing in Syria's Hmeimim airbase, the aircraft had been painted with MiG29 Mark's so they wouldn't show any national references.
AFRICOM added that the warplanes were flown by Russian military members and escorted by Russian fighters based in Syria to Libya, landing in eastern Libyan region near Tobruk for fuel.
"At least 14 newly unmarked Russian aircraft are then delivered to Al Jufra Air Base in Libya." The tweet adds.
On Tuesday, AFRICOM said Russia had deployed military aircraft to provide support for Wagner Group mercenaries fighting for Haftar's forces against the internationally recognized government in Tripoli.
