The United States' Department of State has stressed the urgent need for Libyan leaders to come up with creative compromises on an electoral framework.

US State Department Spokesperson, Ned Price, told reporters on Thursday that Washington's goal when it comes to Libya is a sovereign, stable, unified, and secure state, with no foreign interference, and a democratically elected government that supports development, and is capable of combating terrorism within its borders.

Price also said that the US knows that elections must be free and fair and be held on time on December 24, as they are a core part of the democratic change, saying that is why there's an urgent need for Libyan leaders to come up with creative compromises on an electoral framework.

"We welcomed the Libyan roadmap in UN Security Council Resolution 2570 in April. So, the conduct of free and fair elections — holding a free and fair elections is extraordinarily important to us. It is something that we will continue to work on with our partners in the international community to continue to support and help the Libyan people achieve their broader aspirations." Price added.

The US efforts had been doubled lately regarding Libya, as most recently; the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Egyptian officials in Cairo and discussed the need to hold Libya elections on schedule.
