The US-based Culmen International, a leader in international security, logistics and technology solutions company announced Thursday that it had been awarded a grant to implement the Libya Airport and Aviation Security Program in three airports.

The company, operating in in over 100 countries on six continents, said the grant was given by the US Department of State (DOS), Bureau of Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism (CT).

According to the company, it will be responsible for increasing Libyan airports' security, their capacity to monitor terrorist threats, screen against terrorist transit, and develop standard operating procedures to mitigate such threats at three key airports through assessments, equipment procurement, training, and the development of a national aviation security strategy.

"Given the centrality of Libya's civilian airports to many recent conflicts, and their vulnerability to terrorism, a clear and urgent need has emerged for innovative ideas to improve the security of Libya's airports consistent with international standards." The company added.

Culmen's CEO Dan Berkon also indicated that its team is excited to get to work helping to restore international flights to and from Libya.

This DOS grant allows Culmen to expand its service capabilities in aviation security, a continued key focus in the fight against terrorism, the company remarked.

Meanwhile, the ministry of transportation of the Presidential Council said the three airports are Tripoli Airport, Mitiga Airport and Misrata Airport as a first stage of work for Culmen.

The ministry added in a statement Saturday that the grant is funded by the US government based on coordination between Libyan Foreign Ministry and US embassy in Libya.
