The US Charge d’Affaires Joshua Harris met with GNA Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha and National Security Advisor Taj al-Din al-Rezagi on Monday.

Joshua emphasized that the US embassy will work with Bashagha to ensure full implementation of US Executive Order 13726, which allows for sanctions against individuals that threaten the peace, security, and stability of Libya.

The embassy added on Facebook on Wednesday that the meeting reiterated US support for all Libyan efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire and come together in peaceful dialogue.

Bashagha outlined efforts to reduce the role of militias as part of building legitimate security forces to serve the Libyan people.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry said Bashagha briefed Harris about the efforts to undermine the role of armed groups as part of building legitimate security forces to serve the Libyan people.

"Interior Ministry is working with allies to ensure the individuals hindering peace and security efforts in Libya are sanctioned for their crimes." Bashagha tweeted.
