Senior military officials aligned with Khalifa Haftar have held talks with a high-level American delegation aboard the USS Mount Whitney, the flagship of the US Sixth Fleet, which docked in Benghazi on Monday.

According to a statement from the US Embassy in Libya, the delegation included Vice Admiral J.T. Anderson, Commander of the US Sixth Fleet; Richard Norland, the US Special Envoy to Libya; and Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt.

Representing Haftar’s forces were General Secretary Khairi Al-Tamimi and Navy Chief of Staff Shuaib Al-Saber, alongside other senior officers.

The discussions reportedly focused on bolstering military cooperation between the United States and Libya, with particular emphasis on supporting Libyan efforts to unify its fragmented military structure.

In a statement, the US Embassy reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to working with Libyan leaders across political, economic, and security sectors to achieve “lasting peace and national unity.”

The visit to Benghazi followed earlier engagements in the capital, Tripoli, where US officials met with political and military leaders to discuss integration within Libya’s armed forces.
