The United States Embassy in Libya denied, on Sunday, any changes in the visas issued for Libyan travelers to the US.

In a notice posted on Twitter, the embassy confirmed that "there are no changes to announce regarding visas for Libyan travelers to the United States," affirming that the reports that changes have gone into effect are untrue."

The statement directed Libyans to visit the US embassy website for current requirements.

On Saturday, local media circulated news that the United States has amended procedures for granting one-year multi entry visas to some categories of Libyans.

The news was drawn from Libya's Special Envoy to Washington, Muhammad al-Darrat, who wrote on his Twitter account that the US will start granting Libyans entry visas to the US.

"An agreement has been signed between the Government of National Unity and the American authorities to grant free-of-charge US entry visas for 12 months for Libyan students, businessmen, officials, and tourists.”

Libya's envoy, however, rectified his declaration following the US embassy's statement. "I apologize for publishing the information on reaching an agreement on granting visas to Libyan citizens to enter the US before it was officially announced by the official authorities, and this haste was an unintended mistake on my part."
