Tripoli protests

Tripoli plunged into chaos last night after anti-government -some armed -protests turned violent.

Protesters with different orientations marched in several areas of the capital, burning tyres and chanting anti-government slogans.

At first, the protesters condemned the clashes in Tripoli and demanded Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah step down.

After a while, the protests voiced other slogans as they were infiltrated by many former regime of Gaddafi supporters who demanded Saif Gaddafi’s return to be the president of Libya.

Supporters of warlord Khalifa Haftar also exploited the chaotic situation and urged him to rule the country.

In a protest in Abu Salim, Ali Al-Jaberi, the Deputy Chief of the Directorates Support Agency survived an assassination attempt when armed men opened fire at his vehicle after negotiating with the protesters. The armed protesters also set fire to armoured military vehicles.
