Western Coast Guard has caught a tanker in the Libyan waters as it was on its way to smuggle diesel to Malta, and led it to Abu sitta Navy Base in Tripoli.

A Coast Guard source said the Maltese-registered tanker, named SAN GWANN, was intercepted 7 km to the north of Abu Kammash district with 3 crewmembers on deck and a capacity of 5000 liters.

“The crewmembers are a Syrian national, who is in charge of the sailing, and two Egyptian nationals. The ship was loaded with 85 thousand liters of diesel one day before being intercepted .” Said the source.

He also added that the Coast Guard, after recognizing it and intercepting it in the Libyan waters, directed it to the Tripoli Navy Base and it would be under investigation later since the Coast Guard has informed the Public Prosecutor’s Office, where the three crewmembers to be interrogated.
