The Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has stressed the important role of regional organizations and neighboring countries in constructively supporting Libya to move towards comprehensive and credible national elections.

This came during her meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, which took place on Monday in Cairo.

“I expressed my sincere gratitude for the support extended to the UN good offices in Libya”, Williams tweeted.

Williams briefed Ahmed Aboul Gheit about the consultations of the joint Libyan Constitutional Track Committee consisting of members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, facilitated by the UN and graciously hosted by Egypt.

The meeting witnessed an exchange of views on the possible effects of developments in the international arena in general and the Middle East and North Africa region in particular on the Libyan file.
