The Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has stated that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and the head of the parallel government, Fathi Bashagha may hold direct talks to resolve the current political crisis.

“There are positive reactions from Dbeibah and Bashagha," Williams added to Bloomberg Agency, saying that the good thing is that everyone is ready to participate in a constructive dialogue, and this can be built upon.

She also indicated that the United Nations is not specialized in supporting or recognizing governments, and that elections are the only way out of the political crisis in the country and are necessary to renew the legitimacy of Libyan institutions.

Williams stressed that she cannot present a fixed timetable in order to work with the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to lay the constitutional basis and review electoral laws, pointing out that holding elections is possible next June if everyone goes towards this entitlement.
