Relative calm has returned to the city of Zawiya after intense clashes between rival militias left three people dead and several others injured.

The fighting, involving heavy and medium weaponry, erupted near Rukaina Roundabout close to Zawiya’s oil refinery, about 45 kilometres west of Tripoli.

The confrontation occurred between the “Kabawat” militia, led by Othman Allahib of the “103rd Battalion,” and the “Ghwailat” militia, commanded by Mohammed Bahroun, also known as “Al-Far.”

Unconfirmed reports indicate significant damage to public property, including a mosque in the conflict zone, along with an undetermined number of injuries.

Zawiya has witnessed recurring violence as militias compete for control and influence in the city.
