Zuwara rejects coast municipalities’ agreement to appoint a brigade to run Ras Ajdair border
Zuwara municipality, elders’ council, and civil societies said they reject the statement of the coast municipalities that was issued on Monday appointing Jamal Al-Ghayeb brigade to run the Ras Ajdair border.
In a statement, they demanded an apology statement for Zuwara residents from the coast municipalities as they urged for division in the city, saying Ras Ajdair is for all Libyans and because it is located on the administrative borders of the Zwuara municipality, no one can interfere in its internal affairs without prior approval.
Ten municipalities from the west coast held a meeting in Sabratha and it was attended by leaders from Jamal Al-Ghayeb brigade to discuss the unrest on Ras Ajdair that took place before and after the brigade’s appointment, which was agreed upon by all the attendees saying protecting the border is a duty for all the western region’s municipalities.
Jamal Al-Ghayeb brigade said Sunday it had been appointed by the UN-proposed government’s Ministry of the Interior and Customs Authority in order to put an end to the smuggling issue which has recently taken a soar, especially with the fall of the dinar against other currencies.
