Al-Ittihad and Al-Akhdar teams representing Libya in the African Championships achieved conflicting results in their opening matches in the first preliminary round of the African Champions League anf the African Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Al Ittihad's match against Flamboe de Center of Burundi was a disappointment as they lost 1-0 without troubling their hosts. The game took place at the Azam Stadium in Tanzania.

The Burundians were no threat to Al Ittihad except for the only ball that bounced from Al Ittihad's goalkeeper in front of the Flambo striker, who shot it straight into the net amid the poor defence of Al Ittihad.

Al-Ittihad has an opportunity to make up for their loss when they receive Flambo at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi in the return match on September 18th.

In the first preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup, Libya's Al-Akhdar defeated its guest Al-Ahly of Sudan by 3-0 on the grounds of the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi.

Al-Akhdar gave a compelling performance and dominated the first half from the outset, opening the score two minutes into the game through striker Salem Al-Masallati.

Striker Jacques Bessan of Al Akhdar then settled his team's nerve with a second goal in the last minute before the break.

As they went into the second half, Al-Akhdar maintained the same pace of performance as they went on to produce many chances before Muhammad Jadallah managed to score the third and final goal with a neat header.

With this victory, Al-Akhdar has cut half the way to qualify for the second preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup, awaiting the return match scheduled for next week in an unspecified stadium.
