Libyan powerlifter Abdullah Hajir has won the gold medal and set a new African record in Algeria International Powerlifting Championship held between April 14-16.

Hajir broke his former deadlift record of 300 kg with 320 kg in the 105 kg class, advancing to the World Powerlifting Championship, slated for next summer in the USA.

Libya also secured silver medals in the three-day tournament. Powerlifter Sinni Finir won the silver medal in the 105 kg class, Akram Boaashi in the 93 kg class and Mohammed Rafadi in the 83 kg class.

Four countries took part in the championship including Algeria, Libya, Egypt and Morocco.
