The First Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Olympics Committee (LOC), Osman Al-Ganeen, announced that Libya will take part in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with five different game categories – judo, swimming, taekwondo, rowing, and athletics, pointing out that other categories will be added after qualifiers end.

This announcement comes after a meeting held Thursday by the LOC in which they discussed all about the participation of Libya in the Rio Olympics.

“The meeting was very friendly and there was no tension whatsoever among the attendees and the Chairman as well as the two deputies of the LOC, so all the rumors about a huge dispute and disagreement in the meeting are nowhere near the truth.” Explained the member of the LOC’s media office, Nasar Al-Mahdwi.

The First Deputy added that the final number of athletes to take part in the Libyan crew will be specified soon, pointing out that the Libyan mission to Rio could be headed by Jamal Al-Zarrouk, who is the Chairman of the LOC.
