Libya has topped African countries in the 2024 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Development Index.
According to the index released by the International Telecommunication Union, Libya advanced to the first position on the continent, having previously ranked fifth last year, as reported on the "Hakomitna" Facebook page on Monday.
The report highlighted Libya's significant leap, scoring 88.1 points, an 11% increase from the previous year's figure. This achievement placed Libya ahead of Morocco, which ranked second with 86.8 points, followed by Seychelles with 84.7 points, Mauritius with 84.2 points, and South Africa in fifth place with 83.6 points.
The index further revealed that Libya scored 88.2 points in universal access and 87.9 points in effective connectivity. These scores indicate notable progress in network coverage, affordability, and mobile data traffic, showcasing the country's ability to develop a robust ICT infrastructure despite its uneven distribution across the territory.
The report explained that universal access signifies widespread availability through various digital communication infrastructures, including the Internet and mobile networks, whereas effective connectivity represents the optimal and real use of these technologies.
