Afriqiyah Airways launched its first official flight to southern Libya on Thursday. The company said a plane departed Mitiga Airport in Tripoli for Tamanhint airport, 30 km northeast of Sabha carrying some company officials and other travellers.

Upon arrival, the plane was welcomed by several local officials and other Sabha elders who expressed their happiness to resume flights from their city to the capital.

One flight a week has been already scheduled.

Tamanhint airport, located in Al-Bawanis Municipality, was inaugurated in June following a year of closure with a test flight by Afriqiyah Airways.
