The Tunisian Ministry of Transport has reopened its airspace to all Libyan airlines companies to operate commercial flights from all of the Libyan airports to all of the Tunisian ones.

In a statement earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry indicated that the decision to reopen the Tunisian air to Libyan airlines was approved after a series of meetings between Libyan and Tunisian Aviation Authorities, the last of which was on Monday, August 17.

The reopening decision also resulted from a group of checkups carried out in the Libyan western and eastern airports by a team of technicians specialized in civil airports security and safety in order to make sure whether or not they meet up with the international standards in this regard.

“The resumption of flights between the two neighboring countries will pave the way for more travelling and air exchanges, besides the humanitarian implication as it would allow lots of Libyan patients to feel safe and secure when they need to visit a Tunisian hospital for treatment.” The statement reads.

On August 21, 2014, Tunisia suspended all flights to and from Mitiga and Misrata airports in western Libya, while it allowed only Libyan airliners to operate flights from Tobuk and Labrag airports in the east.
