The Municipality of Central Tripoli has closed the area surrounding the Corniche, which extends from the Waddan Bridge to the roundabout at Tripoli's sea port entrance, with concrete barriers.

The municipality explained in a statement on Saturday that the measure aims to prevent vehicles of all kinds from entering the pedestrian areas on the Corniche to protect the rights of citizens to enjoy the place without threat of sudden collapse of the Corniche, which was cracked by the vehicles.

It pointed out that it had appealed to all officials and relevant authorities to take the necessary action to protect the Corniche from collapsing.

The municipality warned in its statement those who violate the new measure and drive their vehicles into the Corniche will bear responsibility for the collapse.

“The violators will be investigated and maximum penalty will be imposed in accordance with legal procedures and regulations,” the statement warned.
