Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Hawaij, has opened in Tripoli, the international workshop entitled “Maritime Trade: Opportunities and Challenges.” The workshop, which was held in Tripoli, under the auspices of the Ministry and organized by the Libya Trade Network and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, with a presentation on competencies of the Libya Trade Network, as a means of informational link between local and international institutions working in the field of trade, and its role in overcoming difficulties and developing the Libyan trade sector. In his remarks, Al-Hawaij stressed the importance of maritime trade for the economy and diversification of sources of income, as global merchandise trade constitutes 80% via sea routes, and 90% of imports and exports of the African continent are via maritime shipping lines. The two-day workshop, conducted through panels discussion by Libyan and Arab specialists and academics, from Egypt, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, and Singapore, on the transportation sector and its role in developing maritime trade, enhancing international cooperation, and diversifying national economies.
