Wazen border

The Customs Authority has seized large quantities of smuggled medicines at the Wazen border crossing with Tunisia.

According to a statement released on Saturday, customs officers apprehended a Libyan citizen on Wednesday, who was arriving from Tunisia in a private vehicle loaded with smuggled drugs.

The statement hailed "the swift action" of the customs officers, underscoring their critical role in safeguarding the country's food and drug security.

Smuggling between Libya and Tunisia remains a major issue, leading the Libyan Ministry of Interior to close the Ras Ajdir border crossing with Tunisia since April. The decision aims to allow the deployment of specialized security forces after clashes erupted between a stationed group and another assigned by the ministry.
