Libya’s Ambassador to Italy, Muhannad Younes, said on Sunday that the Italian government's decision to end the air embargo on Libya came after the relentless efforts of the Government of National Unity to ensure operations are conducted in line with international civil aviation standards.

In a statement, Ambassador Younis confirmed that Libya will start operating direct flights to Europe within two months at best after completing technical procedures.

"The step is due to the improved security conditions the country saw lately, in implementation of the government's commitment not to return to wars," Younis said, calling on the Libyan people "to preserve these gains" and work to enhance security and stability.
