UN, Canada, France

The United Nations, France, and Canada have agreed on the need for Libyan stakeholders to agree on implementable electoral laws, refrain from unilateral steps and engage in a spirit of compromise to find an agreement on the key contentious issues.

This came during two separate meetings the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, held with the French and Canadian ambassadors to Libya in Tripoli on Thursday.

He said the Canadian Ambassador Isabelle Savard expressed her country’s support for the UN’s efforts to enable elections through a consensual and inclusive approach.

Bathily noted that in a separate meeting with the French Ambassador Mostafa Miraj, he reviewed the current situation in the country and the forthcoming steps of the political process.
