The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has welcomed the release of the Minister of Finance of the former Government of National Accord, Faraj Boumtari, renewing its call for the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained civilians, activists, political figures and members of the security services.

In a statement, the UNSMIL reminded all law enforcement agencies and all other actors of their obligation to respect human rights and the rule of law, including ensuring judicial supervision of arrests and detentions.

The Attorney General's office released Boumtari following his arrest last Tuesday by the Internal Security Agency.

The Ministry of Justice said that Boumtari's release does not mean that he is innocent of what he accused of, and that he should go the Attorney General's office on the first Sunday of every month.
