The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has welcomed the establishment of a higher financial committee to “address basic issues in public spending and fair distribution of resources.”

In a statement on Saturday, UNSMIL explained that membership of the committee, reflects the extent of political consensus achieved, as it included all active political parties, as it put it.

This step would provide equal opportunities for all candidates, in the upcoming elections, as well as give transparency to the spending of public funds, and the fair distribution of national resources, it added.

UNSMIL commended the Head of Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, and all parties which worked to facilitate agreement on this mechanism, according to UNSMIL statement.
