A Facebook post by the UN Support Mission in Libya describing warlord Khalifa Haftar as “Libyan National Army commander” has sparked a wave of anger.

Facebook users hammered the post on Thursday with angry and negative comments, accusing UN envoy Ghassan Salame and his mission of hypocrisy and bias.

Salame met with warlord Khalifa Haftar in Al-Rajma town, 27 km east of Benghazi, on Thursday to discuss the political process.

According to the UN-backed Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), the Presidential Council, headed by Fayaz Sarraj, is the Commander of the Libyan National Army. Khalifa Haftar doesn’t recognize the LPA, the Presidential Council and its government. However, The UN Mission in Libya recognizes him as “Libyan National Army commander”, which casts shadow over LPA success.

“Identifying Khalifa Haftar as Libyan National Army commander illustrates hypocrisy and double standards of the UN Mission in Libya.” A commentator says.

Here are some reactions to the post which was stormed by more than 300 negative comments:
