The Presidential Council's Head Mohammed Menfi met at the Council's headquarters with the Russian ambassador to Libya, Aydar Aganin, to discuss enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Presidential Council's statement, the meeting discussed the latest political, economic and security developments in Libya, the latest steps of the United Nations mission, in addition to enhancing bilateral cooperation and activating the joint committee between the two countries, as the Russian ambassador reaffirmed his country's support for the political settlement process in Libya leading to general elections.
Meanwhile, the Russian embassy said on its Facebook page that the meeting discussed a wide range of issues, including issues related to the Libyan political process and the current state of bilateral relations. The meeting addressed the issue of the prolonged detention of Libyan citizen Hannibal Gaddafi in Lebanon without trial or investigation.
The embassy added that "the Russian side confirmed its readiness to continue providing support to Libyan partners in overcoming the internal political crisis and unifying the country on the basis of consensus and understanding among all its main parties," while Menfi expressed "his appreciation to Russia for its support for Libya in various international forums, expressing his hope for the continuation of this cooperation."
