The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held on Friday in Tunisia a Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration (DDR) Working Group meeting with the active participation of key Libyan officials from eastern and western regions.

UNSMIL said on X platform that the meeting provided a platform for a coherent international community approach to supporting relevant Libyan institutions to contribute to DDR and broadly to social cohesion, as well as peace and stability for Libya and the region.

"The meeting, attended by the UN Country Team, member states, and INGOs, identified important recommendations, including engaging community leaders in conflict prevention, mediation, and de-militarizing residential areas." UNSMIL said.

UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily said last Tuesday he had attended in Tunisia the opening session of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC), in the presence of the Co-Chairs of the Security Working Group of the Berlin process, explaining that the meeting reviewed the recent political and security developments in Libya.

"I commended the 5+5 JMC for their sense of responsibility and unity. I emphasized the importance of their role towards the full and effective implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and relevant action plans." Bathily added.
