A Belgian court has ordered Libya to pay millions of euros in compensation for Global Sustainable Development Trust (GSDT), formerly headed by Prince Laurent, the younger brother of Belgian King, Philippe.

The Civil Court of Brussels accused Libya of breaching a contract the Libyan government had signed with GSDT in 2008 to carry out reforestation project, which the Libyan government unilaterally cancelled in 2010.

The court said the verdict is final and ordered the Libyan authorities to pay 38 million euros to GSDT.

GSDT was hired by Libya in 2008 to build a "green belt" to prevent desertification around the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi and Al-Bayda. In 2010, the contract was broken and GSDT claimed to have lost tens of millions of euros already invested in the project.
