The African Development Bank (ADB) has confirmed its support for the National Strategy for Food Security in Libya, during a coordination meeting that discussed the complex challenges facing the formulation and implementation of food security strategies such as climate change, water management, nutrition, the need for inclusiveness, and preparedness for emergency response.

“Food security is a prerequisite for economic development, social stability and the general well-being of the population,” said Malinne Blomberg , Deputy Director General of the Bank for North Africa.

The Bank is working with other development partners to ensure the success of the strategy, she added.

The Bank hosted the meeting to deepen dialogue with the Libyan authorities on key priorities, including agriculture, which formed part of the Bank's commitments, in response to global challenges, and to build on the results of the "Dakar January 2" summit on food sovereignty and resilience in Africa.
